Shanellia – Billy Ng
“Charming, Upbeat, and Focused” was what Vancouver Fashion eZine reporter Marilyn Wilson said about Billy Ng.
Billy was born and raised in Hong Kong. His passion for fashion started at the age of three, when he started playing in his parent’s garment factory. He moved to Vancouver in grade 9 and indulged in a completely different culture than that of his childhood.
Billy furthered his education by taking garment construction courses through the VSB and an entrepreneurship program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Upon completion, he went into Fashion Design at The Art Institute of Vancouver for it’s strong international reputation.
Shanellia – “The Beautiful Gift of God”, is Billy’s grad collection. This collection was inspired bythe work of artist Vladimir Vojvodic and 19th century Victorian dresses. It was expressed that “out of the 100 looks AI has each student create for their grad collection, Billy had to choose 4 to showcase in La Musique, the AI grad runway show. He had chosen 2 women’s floor-lengthgowns and 2 men’s suits.”
Currently, Billy is focusing on custom orders and creating a retail line. Not only was Shanellia a success in gaining recognition from Vancouver Fashion eZine, but Billy is also a well recognized fashion designer in the Asian Community of Vancouver. He has designed outfits for the annual Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant Show and have received many compliments on his designs.
We are very happy to be featuring Billy Ng’s designs in our show, and we hope you enjoy his fashion as much as we do.

Number of homeless in Vancouver “pretty fuzzy”
“The actual number of homeless people in the country is unknown, and any estimates we do have just represent the “tip of the iceberg”, Shapcott said. Although it’s easy to count those in homeless shelters, it’s difficult to find out how many “rough sleepers” are living on the streets and “couch surfers” are staying temporarily with friends and family, he explained.
Another problem, Shapcott noted, is that Statistics Canada misses a large number of people when it conducts a census.”
